Made for my best friend, who loves Portland so fiercely that even having so many of us in San Francisco hasn’t convinced her to leave.

Rather than painting Portland literally, I reduced the city to fragments of color, texture, shape, and familiar icons. Old Town, Powell’s, and the St. Johns Bridge emerge from the abstraction, while the muted blues, deep greens, mossy olives, and softened neutrals draw from the wet, rain-soaked palette of the Pacific Northwest.

In the lower left, a small burst of layered pink, coral, and red texture quietly nods to Portland’s roses and its beloved rose gardens—not as a painted flower, but simply as color and feeling.

Together, these fragments become less a view of Portland than a memory of it: rainy, green, creative, textured, a little quirky, and deeply loved.
